By 2035, Africa's population is expected to increase from 1.2 billion to at least 2 billion. The burden imposed on our African continent will be immense - our social, ecological and economic systems are already constrained. The onset of COVID-19 has not helped.
As we build back, countless opportunities will emerge! But we need to be proactive and responsible in our response - we need to ensure that we shift from our current 'take-make-waste' extractive industrial model to one that is circular, which is restorative and regenerative by intention and design. Importantly, we need to move beyond solutions that only focus on recycling and waste management.
By harnessing the potential of exponential technologies like 3D printing, AI, Blockchain, and Extended Reality; impact innovation capabilities; and combining this with purpose, we can achieve an inclusive, sustainable, circular economy in Africa. Through enabling ecosystems, we can empower our local talent to innovate and lead from the front lines and shape the Africa that we want.
